Ba___sho from, Hyakusho Watanabe Rice Farm Yamagata!

Hyakusho Watanabe Mogamien

In Japan, the word Hyakusho was once used to describe farmers.
It carries many meanings.
many people, many roles, many forms of work.
Because farming is never just one job.

Mogamien stands in Nanyo City, Yamagata, Japan.
High mountains guard the land.
Cold winters, hot summers.
A climate that produces strong crops.

The farmer is Susumu Watanabe, the second Rice farmer of Mogamien.

They say Hyakusho means doing a hundred kinds of work.
And that’s exactly what farming is.
He chose the name Hyakusho Watanabe
and wrote it proudly on his farm truck.

My kids get embarrassed,
but their friends are curious.
Farming deserves pride.

Watanabe relies on his own homemade naturally fermented plant food
a one of a kind organic method, and careful crop management.
Everything is grown slowly, patiently, and with intention.

"We don’t grow much", Watanabe says with a quiet smile,
"but this is a share from a Hyakusho."
I hope you’ll enjoy it.
